Racing Team: Week of 9/15/25-9/21/25

Susquehanna River Running Festival

The women’s team brought home two coveted duck trophies from the Susquehanna River Running Festival in Havre de Grace, MD. 

In the 10k, Samantha Merkel set a new PR (by over a minute!) with her time of 38:26. She was the first female, and second overall finisher in the race. 

In the half marathon, Deb Hicks also set a huge masters PR (by over 50 seconds!) with her time of 1:36:02. She finished as 5th woman (2nd masters) and improved her own grandmasters racing team record.

Kensington 8k

At the Kensington 8k, Jake Englander won the Masters category and finished 8th overall with a time of 28:51. The course was a little short, but this approximately matches his 8k PR.

Parks Half Marathon

At the Parks Half Marathon, several team members pushed through less-than-ideal conditions to earn overall and age group prizes.

For the women, Hannah Betman finished in 1st place (despite taking a wrong turn) with a time of 1:19:57. Alexandra Carrizales made an impressive half marathon debut with her 5th place finish and time of 1:24:11.

On the men’s side, Paul Hugus led the way with his 7th place finish overall (2nd masters) in 1:15:35. Rounding out the men’s team was Jason Sammut (16th overall/5th age group, 1:20:30), Jicheng Liu (23rd overall/2nd age group, 1:22:48) and Tunde Morakinyo (55th overall/1st age group, 1:31:48).

Philadelphia Distance Run
Neta Ezer also ran a strong half marathon at the Philadelphia Distance Run. She placed 28th overall (1st age group) with her time of 1:24:33.

Sunday Strides Legends of the Fall #2
At Burleigh Manor Middle School, Adam Wytko won the second race in the HCS Sunday Strides Legends of the Fall series. His five mile time of 30:45 was nearly 5 minutes ahead of second place.

Berlin Marathon

Qiang Tian completed his 5th World Major Marathon, finishing the Berlin Marathon in 3:14:25.
