Hibernation to 5K
Next Step Hibernation to 5K is a no frills, get to work right away program to encourage a quick start to the new year. This program is for both beginning runners and more experienced adult runners (18+) that just need to get off the couch after a long winter! Although we only train as a group once a week, participants should expect to be devoting time for 3-4 workouts each week in order to maximize their progress. The coordinators for this program are the dynamic duo of Bill Arbelaez and Rene Alonso. Please note there will be no restrooms available.

Program Structure
The Howard County Striders Hibernation to 5K (H25K) program is a supportive, coach-led training program designed to help runners of all levels safely and confidently progress toward completing a 5K. The program begins with an initial one-mile time trial to place participants into pace-appropriate groups, allowing coaches to tailor workouts and ensure runners train alongside others of similar ability. Throughout the program, participants will take part in structured weekly workouts that focus on building endurance, improving running efficiency, and gradually increasing confidence, all while emphasizing injury prevention and consistency. Coaches provide guidance, encouragement, and individualized adjustments as needed, fostering a welcoming and motivating group environment. Weather-related updates and important announcements are shared through the club’s communication channels, and participants can expect a well-organized, community-driven experience that prepares them for a successful 5K at the end of the program.
Although we only train as a group once a week, participants should expect to be devoting time for 3-4 workouts each week in order to maximize their progress.
