Support Striders Legislative Bond Initiative- Letter from the President

Dear Striders Member,

As part of our 50th Anniversary celebration next year, the Board of Directors and I have applied for public funding to establish a plaque, monument, bench or a fixed structure to recognize the Striders’ contribution to the community over the past 50 years. Howard County State Delegate Dr. Chao Wu’s office has guided us through the process and our bond initiative is on the agenda for the December 16th public hearing.

George Howard Building, Banneker Room
3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043

What I need from You:

Immediate Past President Bill Brown and I will testify in-person in support of the funding at the public hearing on December 16th. You can support us and the club in two ways:

  1. Provide written testimony to the Howard County Delegation in support of our public funding request.
    a. Write the email to hoc1@mlis.state.md.us. Carbon copy (CC) Dr. Wu’s office Chao.Wu@house.maryland.gov and me president@striders.net.
    b. Indicate in the email what the Striders has meant to you, your family, and the community at large.
    c. Indicate the positive impact the Striders have on the community through our bagel runs, races, and training programs including Junior Striders.
    d. Submit email by Monday, December 15th at 5:00pm.
  1. If possible, attend the public hearing in-person and wear your Striders’ gear. The hearing starts at 6pm but there is no exact time given for our testimony. Numerous other pieces of legislation and initiatives will be discussed, and we might be there for several hours. If you have the time, please attend in-person.

We know that this is a busy time of year, so either method of support is greatly appreciated. That said, the more written testimonies we submit, the better chance we will have of being approved.

Thank you,

Hafiz Shaikh
President
