Len Guralnick

Len joined the Striders in 1996 when he started running after a 15 year hiatus. He had run a little bit for a couple of years when he was in his early thirties, but never when he was younger. Len preferred smaller races but his proudest racing achievement was qualifying and racing the Boston Marathon at age 50. He was an avid Bagel Runner but his greatest love was the Striders weekly series.

Len directed the series for an incredible eight years. Len arranged the schedule, coordinated volunteers, and showed up to lead every week.  He even hosted the summer series finale race each year at his own house on Celestial Way in Longfellow! His commitment to the Weekly Series, every Sunday at 2 PM (and Wednesday evenings in the summertime) was truly impressive.

Continuing his love of smaller events, Len also served as race director for the Turkey Trot and Resolution Run prediction runs.

During his stint on the Striders Board of Directors, Len took responsibility for the Striders “hotline”, taking and returning phone calls from runners with questions about the club and its events.

Len served as Striders President from 2006-2007. He was responsible for creating the Striders summer picnic and overseeing one of the largest slates of special races in club history. At the end of his term, he “stepped down” but continued his work with the weekly races and Striders hotline.
