Kelly Watkins

Kelly started running in middle school to stay in shape for soccer, only to convert to Cross Country and Track & Field year round at Archbishop Spalding High School and later Gettysburg College. She competed in everything from high jump to the 4x200 relay to the 2 mile run. She still holds several event records at her high school where she was inducted in the Athletic Hall of Fame. After coaching track & field for two years while in college, Kelly came back to her alma mater to teach and coach for a number of years before starting a family. After a hiatus of a decade raising her daughters, she has recently returned to training and racing with the amazing support of her family.

This past year Kelly earned a new personal best in the 5k, placing first for Masters Women at the Baltimore Running Festival, beating her previous personal best set over 20 years ago. She also competed in her first 10k race, placing first for Masters Women at the Sole of the City 10k. Kelly is currently a Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, with a long background in Counseling and Teaching. Kelly is new to the Howard County Striders team after training with another elite racing team and is looking forward to working with her teammates to further their goals together. Her goals include inspiring her children through her continued fitness, meeting new training partners and becoming a strong competitor in the Masters division.
