Jessie Yang
Xi Yang, who goes by Jessie, grew up in China as a competitive age group swimmer until age 16. She did not pick up running until 2017, after moving to the United States and having 2 children, and a year after receiving ACL reconstruction surgery on one of her knees. She started running to prepare for her first triathlon race in August 2017. In 2018, 2019 and 2021, she participated in the Howard County Striders Next Step Half/Full Marathon training. She ran her first Marathon at the California International Marathon on December 8, 2019, in a time of 3:19:09, which qualified her to run at the Boston Marathon on October 11, 2021, and she finished it in a time of 3:14:33. With the help of Next Step training, she also improved her time in other distances. She completed the 2021 Women’s Distance Festival 5k in 20:31, and the 2021 Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Run in 1:08:14. She is also a frequent podium finisher for local triathlon races.
