The 31st running of the Cherry Blossom 10-Mile road race took place on a clear but chilly morning in old DC on the last Sunday of Cherry Blossom weekend. Although it didn't feel like quite spring, the cherry blossoms were near their peak and at least it didn't snow. The Striders sent a contingent of 93 runners (33 women and 60 men at last count) to the race, including seven teams. "They don't get any easier," veteran Bob Burns commented about the race. "I don't get any faster, either!" Bob was actually one of the few Striders to place in his age group. Trey
Cassidy may have had the biggest thrill of all the Striders in the race because he got to run behind Bill Rodgers. Spearheaded by Ed Burke, the Strider "A" team Track Stars placed third among 16 men's open teams, while the Blue Magic team captured second among 18 coed masters teams. "At least we beat Falls Road!" groused one team member.
