Kent Werner was the captain of the track and cross country teams at Randolph-Macon Academy, a military high school in Front Royal, VA. He ran freshman year for JV track at the US Naval Academy. Sophomore through senior year (2001), he ran for the USNA Marathon Club with a 2:55 at Boston in 2001. After graduation, he was deployed on the USS MAHAN (DDG 72) and did not run competitively for two years. In 2003, he temporarily returned to civilian life to attend medical school - enabling him to join the Howard County Striders and to begin to get in shape.
Currently Kent studies medicine as an MD-PhD candidate at Johns Hopkins. He lives in Columbia, MD with his wife, Crystal, and his two boys, Justin and Ryan.
